Description

This 8-minute film follows Celina as she shares the daily challenges of raising her daughter, whose ADHD is compounded by Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD). While ADHD affects attention and impulse control, it is the ODD - marked by defiance, conflict, and disruptive behaviour- that most strongly impacts her daughter’s school life and home environment. Through Celina’s story, the film highlights the reality faced by many families navigating conduct disorders, the most common mental and behavioural difficulties in children, affecting around 7% of boys and 3% of girls. It offers insights for parents, carers, and professionals into the importance of understanding and supporting children with complex needs to help them thrive both at school and at home.

Learning Objectives

1. Recognise how ADHD and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) can interact and impact a child’s behaviour at home and in school. 2. Understand the lived experiences and challenges faced by parents and carers of children with ADHD and ODD. 3. Identify practical considerations and supportive approaches that can help children with conduct disorders remain in school and achieve a more settled home life.
