School-based Interventions

Schools offer a unique environment from which to support children and young people, in developing good mental health and resilience, preventing mental health problems and supporting the effective treatment of existing conditions. Mental health problems in childhood are linked to educational failure, which in turn is associated with increased rates of psychiatric disorder. There is emerging evidence for school-based interventions as potentially safe and effective treatments for improving the mental health of children and young people. There are many positive effects of school-based interventions. However, there is also a large variation in the efficacy and efficiency of different programmes, depending on the quality of the intervention and its implementation.
