Working memory

Working memory, the ability to temporarily hold and manipulate information, is a critical component of executive functioning that develops throughout childhood and adolescence. Deficits in working memory are associated with various mental health disorders, including ADHD and anxiety, and can significantly impact academic performance and daily functioning. Interventions targeting working memory, such as computerised training programs or strategy instruction, may improve cognitive functioning and academic outcomes in children with mental health challenges.
