Biography

Georgina is a Consultant Psychiatrist and is currently working in the UK in a national inpatient service for adolescents with intellectual disability. Previously she worked for 16 years in community and inpatient adult intellectual disability service and has been working in the NHS in the UK for 30 years. Dr Parkes is also trained as an Executive Coach using the Tavistock psychodynamic and systemic model. She has been involved with training of psychiatrists for nearly 20 years and is also a Balint group leader with a background in psychodynamic psychotherapy and use psychodynamic techniques as an extra communication strategy. She has several publications including an upcoming chapter about PTSD and people with intellectual disability in "Disability Psychotherapy -what is it and why is it important" to be published by Routledge in September 2025.
