Biography
As a Professor and research group leader at the Department of Clinical Research at the University of Basel her special interest lies in investigating the underlying neurobiological mechanisms of deficits in emotion processing in mental health disorders, mainly Disruptive Behaviour Disorders. In cooperation with national and international experts in the field (see for example www.femNAT-cd.eu) she contributed to investigate the interplay between psychosocial and neurobiological risk factors on maladjustment in patients and in typically developing adolescents by using psychophysiological, endocrinological and neurocognitive assessment tools. Her central aim is to make current research findings available for affected children and families. She coordinated the AWMF Guidelines for Conduct Disorder and Oppositional Defiant disorder. Furthermore, she is interested to transfer evidence-based interventions in settings with limited resources or disadvantaged patient groups. Thus, she and her research team is working in further developing and testing more tailored intervention approaches for various vulnerable patient groups (e.g. adolescents in youth welfare institutions, migrants) aiming to enhance emotion regulation and resilience (for example: https://www.istartnow.ch/de). She is head of the Day Care Clinic in Basel and she also supports teams in other clinics or institutions in implementing evidence-based programs in clinics, youth-welfare institutions, correctional facilities or schools.
