Social Communication Disorder
This is characterised by persistent difficulties in the social use of verbal and nonverbal communication, impacting social relationships and academic performance. It is distinct from autism spectrum disorder in that individuals with SCD do not display restricted interests or repetitive behaviours. Early identification and intervention, focusing on pragmatic language skills and social cognition, can significantly improve outcomes for children and adolescents with SCD.
