Anankastic / Obsessive-Compulsive

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in children and adolescents is characterised by intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviours or mental acts (compulsions) that cause significant distress and interfere with daily functioning. The onset of OCD often occurs in childhood or adolescence, with an average age of onset around 10 years old. Cognitive-behavioural therapy, particularly exposure and response prevention (ERP), is considered the first-line treatment for OCD in young people, often combined with medication in more severe cases.
