Professor of Child and Family Mental Health, University of Bath

Sarah Halligan

Biography

Starting with her PhD at Oxford University, Professor Haligan has been researching PTSD for more than two decades. Now at the University of Bath, she particularly wants to understand what can help children recover following a traumatic experience, including how those around them can best provide them with support. She has conducted research looking at children and adolescents in the UK, but also works in other countries, where trauma is more common. This includes places like South Africa and Brazil, where factors including poverty, inadequate housing and high levels of community violence mean that children are particularly at risk of trauma and PTSD.
