Biography
Xavier Castellanos is a renowned scholar with a diverse academic background. He studied Chomskian linguistics at Vassar College, experimental psychology at the University of New Orleans, and medicine at Louisiana State University in Shreveport. He specialized in pediatrics, psychiatry, and child and adolescent psychiatry during his residency at the University of Kentucky. For a decade, he conducted child psychiatry research at the National Institute of Mental Health in Bethesda. In 2001, he joined New York University as an endowed Professor of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Radiology, and Neuroscience. His work focuses on intrinsic functional connectivity in human and translational studies, notably low-frequency fluctuations in brain function and behavior. Dr. Castellanos is consistently recognized as a top 1% cited scientist in psychiatric neuroscience and has played key roles in national and international review committees, including Vice-Chair of the American Psychiatric Association DSM-5 Workgroup on ADHD.
