Biography
Mina Fazel is a Professor of Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Oxford and a consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist at the Oxford Children’s Hospital. Her research focuses on improving mental health services for vulnerable and hard-to-reach populations, with a particular emphasis on refugee mental health, school-based interventions, and service integration. She has worked extensively on developing innovative approaches to increase access to mental health support, particularly within educational settings.
She leads the OxWell Student Survey, one of the largest school-based mental health surveys in the UK, which in 2023 collected responses from over 40,000 students across 200 schools. This research provides invaluable insights into the mental health needs, help-seeking behaviors, and service preferences of young people, directly informing policy and practice.
In addition to her academic and clinical roles, she collaborates with educators, policymakers, and healthcare providers to enhance mental health support systems, ensuring that services are both accessible and responsive to the needs of diverse adolescent populations.
