Biography

Dr. Emma Thornton is currently a Research Associate on the #BeeWell programme and Data Manager for Wave 3 of the Education for Wellbeing programme. Prior to this current role, Emma completed her PhD at the University of Liverpool, which looked at socioeconomic inequalities in vocabulary and their implications for educational attainment and mental health in adolescence. Emma used two British birth cohort studies (the 1970 British Cohort Study and The Millennium Cohort Study) throughout her thesis, which sparked a passion for working with large datasets and data visualisation in R. Alongside her PhD, Emma worked on a Randomised Controlled Trial, in collaboration with the University of Sheffield and the BBC Education team, which investigates the effectiveness of BBC Education’s Tiny Happy People video resources.
